SBAA Teams

A Team in SBAA is the group of people who share access to the same StartingBlocks environments. Your Team controls which environments you can see and what you can do there — for example, create API credentials.

For example, if a district has two StartingBlocks environments (one for school year 2023 and one for school year 2024), their Team in SBAA can access both environments and generate API credentials for either one.

A Team is not the same as a single district. It can include environments for one or more districts, and Team members can perform the same kinds of actions across all of those resources.

Depending on your setup and permissions, your Team may also be able to manage Ed-Fi tenants and ODSs within SBAA.

Team Ownership Roles

Each Team owns a set of resources in SBAA. Ownership roles define what the Team as a whole can do with those resources.

Examples:

  • Application Management Only — The Team can view all of its resources, but can only create, update, or delete Applications.
  • Read Only Ownership — The Team can view all of its resources, but cannot make changes.

User Permissions

Every SBAA user has two kinds of roles:

  1. Global roles — Apply to SBAA as a whole. Most partner users are assigned Standard Tenant User, which means they only see their own account information at the global level and work within their Team's resources.
  2. Team roles — Apply within a specific Team. Users on the same Team can have different levels of access. For example, a district administrator may have more access than a counselor.

Note

What you can do in SBAA is the overlap of two things: what your Team is allowed to do, and what your user role is allowed to do. Both must allow an action for you to perform it.
